    (b. 1939) Gen Mgt
    Canadian academic. Known for his views on strategic management and strategic planning, and for analyzing managerial work. In The Nature of Managerial Work (1973), he showed that the work done by managers was substantially different from the way it was described in business theory.
         Mintzberg graduated in mechanical engineering from McGill University in 1961 and later obtained a PhD in management from MIT. He is currently professor of management at McGill University, Montreal, and professor of organization at INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France.
